Too many times, the elite players don’t take a rest during the season. A star player didn’t appear in two games recently and when the legendary coach Patty Gasso at the University of Oklahoma was asked about it, she gave this answer.
She said the great players get to the point of asking “what else can I do to be better?”
Rest may not be in the schedule, but when you care about the person more than the player, like so many great coaches do, you make them rest and relieve the pressure that’s built up.
The greats stay great because of a coach who doesn’t let the star power blind them.
